Greens MP and mining spokesperson Cate Faehrmann says an approval by the NSW Government for up to 90 coal seam gas wells, processing centre and pipeline near Gloucester has been shrouded in secrecy.
“How is it that a very concerned community, who are keeping a close eye on the project, could not have known about this being approved?” said Ms Faehrmann.
“It appears the approval determination was not published on the Department’s website until yesterday, despite it taking effect on February 22nd.
“The whole process makes a mockery of the supposed ‘tough new rules’ announced late last year.
“The pipeline will impact wetlands of international significance and threatened species habitat.
“Community consultation has been virtually non-existent. Just this weekend there was a large community meeting of local officials and residents and no one knew it had been approved.
“Coal seam gas mining is extremely dangerous. We don’t need any more evidence of that. The government is rushing through major projects that will threaten water supply, the community’s health and our food security.
“Once gas mining poisons the local environment, there is no way to fix it.
“The Planning Minister should immediately revoke the approval,” said Ms Faehrmann.

It appears nobody in NSW Labor government has a conscience. And the only thing driving them is revenue collection! This country will become nothing more than a toxic wasteland if we don’t sit up, take notice and vote for the Greens. No other party is listening. What legacy are we leaving for our children and grandchildren. The one’s we are suppose to love and protect?

IS ours a democracy when such things can — and DO– happen?
