Please help the Greens end the cruel display of animals at private parties by emailing the Minister below.
Did you hear about $500,000 bash thrown to celebrate the opening of Ian Malouf’s new mega-dump for industrial waste in Western Sydney?
At the 600-guest party, amongst other attractions including fireworks, were two African lion cubs.
Over the summer break the Greens discovered that this completely inappropriate display of exotic animals was approved by the Animal Welfare division at the NSW Department of Primary Industries.
A party with 600 people, complete with fireworks, would be absolutely terrifying for a lion cub. It appears that the department signed off on using the lion cubs in this way in direct contradiction with their own guidelines.
Current departmental guidelines for exhibiting animals identify unacceptable practices including “carrying or leading non-tame animals through crowds at venues such as sports events and shopping centres”and to avoid loud noises. If you’re interested you can read the full guidelines here.
It has also been revealled that these cubs travelled all the way from a private zoo in Queensland just to entertain Mr Malouf and his guests.
The Greens are calling for a ban on the exhibition of exotic and native animals at private parties, sporting events, shopping centres and fairs. We need your support.
Help stop this kind of cruel display. Write a letter to the Minister for Primary Industries and ask her to act swiftly to amend the guidelines by filling out the form below.
