FOREST DEFENDERS MOVIE SCREENING

Join Greens MP Cate Faehrmann with special guest Bob Brown (via Zoom) for a screening of Forest Defenders in the Parliamentary Theatrette.

Forest Defenders is a documentary that was filmed on the frontline of the blockade to defend a pocket of Tasmanian wilderness, the largest tract of cool temperate rainforest in the world, the pristine and ancient Tarkine.
This stunning documentary ‘Forest Defenders’ has captured the wild native forests of Tasmania and the Bob Brown Foundations action to defend these forests. It is a grassroots documentary, filmed across Tasmania by the activists themselves.

Capturing the hundreds of volunteers who took part in the takayna/Tarkine Sumac Ridge Blockade, Ta Ann veneer mill shut down and multi-day occupations and disruptions of logging operations in the Que River, Pieman, Wentworth Hills and Mt Field areas. While these actions were happening, (the forest defenders) Ramji and Crusty were filming throughout.

Forest Defenders provides a powerful and beautiful insight into why these spectacular parts of native forests and rainforest are worthy of protection, showing the day-to-day lives of those who fight for their protection as well as the conflict and confrontation that comes with such a battle.
About the Tarkine:
The Tarkine is the largest tract of cool-temperate rainforest in the Southern Hemisphere. It is a relic of Gondwana landscape, the likes of which is only seen in New Zealand or Patagonia. The Tarkine, while achieving multiple World Heritage Values, is not protected. Rather, it is subject to destruction from both the logging and mining industry.
