Just Legalise It!

Tell the Premier and Opposition Leader to Just Legalise It!

    Just Legalise It!

It’s Time to Legalise Cannabis in NSW.

Governments around the world are moving towards legalising and regulating cannabis. In many US states and in Canada, Uruguay, South Africa and Malta it's already legal, while Germany, Luxembourg and Italy are moving toward legalisation too.

We need to see the same here.

The Greens have a bill in the NSW Parliament that would legalise cannabis and see it regulated like alcohol or tobacco, with users able to buy it from a store instead of the black market.

Because people are going to smoke weed no matter what. Legalising cannabis would protect users by introducing standards for growing and selling weed and it would shift profits away from organised crime and into much-needed social services while creating jobs.

So let’s do this. But first, we need to make sure the Government and the Labor Opposition know that community support is there to Just Legalise It!

The Greens Plan to Legalise It! would:

    • Legalise and regulate cannabis for adults in NSW
    • Reform Mobile Drug Testing to test for impairment instead of presence
    • Generate up to $9 billion in revenue over a decade for NSW
    • Allow households to grow up to 12 cannabis plants
    • Regulate cannabis products to reduce harms with health warnings, CBD/THC content labelling and prohibitions on advertising
    • Establish a NSW Cannabis Authority to regulate the cannabis market with the aim to reduce the harms caused by cannabis and prevent the dominance of the industry by large corporations
    • Allow for cannabis social clubs of at least 5 people which can grow 12 plants per member up to 200 plants
    • Extinguish past cannabis convictions

Greens MP and gambling harm reduction spokesperson Cate Faehrmann has accused Chris Minns of being so close to the gambling industry that he is blind to the growing social and economic costs of New South Wales’ pokies addiction, with the quarterly gambling data showing a record $2.37 billion lost in...

Premier Minns throws live music under the bus

NSW Premier Chris Minns’ yesterday attack on a modest proposal to support small music festivals pits communities against each other in a divisive, dog-whistle statement that should alarm anyone who cares about live music in this state, says Greens MP and music and night-time economy spokesperson, Cate Faehrmann.

Water Management Amendment (Easements For Inundation) Bill - speech

I speak in support of the Water Management Amendment (Easements for Inundation) Bill 2025, as The Greens water portfolio holder. The bill was originally introduced to remove a clear policy barrier to restoring the health of rivers and flood plains across the Murray-Darling Basin. It was brought forward in the...

Whale Carcass - Take Note speech

I take note of the answer provided about the Government's approach to the disposal of the sperm whale carcass off the Royal National Park on Friday. What an absolute debacle that was. It could not be said that it was well coordinated or that whoever was in charge in any...
